Hi, my name is Annalise Corcoran and I have just recently started working at The Traveller Movement as the new Womens Equality Intern. When starting work at The Traveller Movement, I was really excited when I found out what my job role was going to be. One thing I really like about the role is being able to assist in helping vulnerable women who may be seeking help and support. I have always had a deep passion about the wellbeing of women and believe women should be helping to build one another up, not tearing each other down.  Being an Irish Traveller myself, I am fully aware of the abuse crisis within the culture and would love in any way to help bring light into the situation and raise awareness.

I am excited to dive deeper into certain projects, such as the Healthy Relationships Toolkit, which is being launched in parliament on Monday the 18th of March.  Personally, I believe this toolkit is a great way to bring awareness to women and young girls everywhere within the Romani (Gypsy), Roma and Traveller communities who may be suffering with blatant or subtle abuse, or who may know someone who is. I’m also looking forward to attending the next Traveller Movement Domestic Abuse training course, ‘Never Going to Beat You’, as I feel eager to learn more about the issues some women are experiencing and ways in which I can help. As I am currently studying counselling, I believe this type of work will give me great experience, allowing me to become aware of some of the mental issues that occur due to abuse.

Overall, I am extremely excited to see where this journey will take me and getting to know the TM team more on the way! A big thank you to all those who have been so friendly and warm and who have made me feel so welcome these past few weeks!
